Day 14-Bball, Midwest, Sushi

by agoodnow

I’m scared to run the half marathon.  Just played basketball for an hour.  Ouch.   Not only did the team I played on lose by 20 points, but my lungs are on fire.  All of my basketball skills have completely eroded.  I used to handle my own.  Now, I’ve got nothing.  I can still set a screen and pass the ball.  Decent on defense, but offensively it was embarrassing.  I missed a wide open lay up.  It was bad, but I’m glad I got out there.  I’m sure if I play a couple more times I will get some sort of touch back.  I did, however, play with a guy who was 6’10.  My game plan was to lob the ball into him and let him score.  It worked every time.  I don’t know why we didn’t do it more often.

Playing basketball made me think of two things.  When my fraternity team made the intramural finals back in college and when I played basketball back in California.  Both were very good memories.  The fraternity team, because we were not that good, but we play great as a team.   California,  because I worked my ass off to make the freshman basketball team.  I wish that I had been able to stick with it.

Also, my athletic glasses held up well.  Finally playing basketball without worrying about my glasses breaking….what a relief.  A great investment.

I need a new dresser, a coffee table, and $57,000.  ($57,000 is an arbitrary number)  Maybe I should start playing lots and lots of scratch tickets.  That’s the key to success.  Dumb luck.

I think I’ll try to get the dresser and coffee table this weekend.  I’ve only been living in my apartment for a year now.  It may as well look like I will be here for a little while.

I had half priced sushi tonight.   First time in a while. Don’t judge me.  You are just jealous because you do not have a market that sells half prices sushi (after 10 pm) downstairs from you.

I made a suggestion to my boss that he break down our clients by region.  Of course he did it and gave me no credit for the suggestion, but that’s how it goes in a large corporation.  I have the Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio area.  I will be attempting to do most of my travel for work after April.  Can  you say Cubs games, Brewers games, Indy 500 and University of Michigan football. Because I can.

I will be the only person on my side of the office tomorrow.  Should be quiet.

I managed two books of business for the last year.  Should I get double for my bonus?  I certainly think so.

Today = 25% done with the sobriety.   I’m feeling good.  I’d like to try to make this more of a lifestyle change.  Just about every part of my life has improved with the exception of not going out.  I miss the commraderie of being at the bar.  I always meet interesting characters.  Most likely because I am one.
